In my paintings I try to setup a situation where invisible structures and patterns around me can grow naturally into conscious and visible forms.

As soon as I start making marks, I feel a strong pull of curiosity and surprise, seeing and responding to forms and colors from a space on, and beyond, the painted surface. It develops into something or somewhere I haven’t seen before and something unnameable is expressed. I get views of environments or structures previously hidden to me. The resulting paintings do not seem abstract, but feel specific, even if unidentifiable.

To begin a painting, there is no image in mind. The process is intuitive, a moment by moment expression, discovery and response. I am reaching for something that is also reaching for me.
