Sandra Kahler grew up playing on the beaches of the Pacific Northwest. As an adult, she spent years painting locations around the Pacific NW, often spending a week backpacking into the ocean wilds or in a cozy cabin. Now she travels with her tablet and works in the studio to recreate these landscapes. She received her BFA in drawing and painting from the University of Washington.

Her Intertidal Zone paintings are about place and space, creating deep space or flat space: sometimes twisting and turning space within the painting. Playful and ambiguous space. She then engages and exaggerates the shapes and colors to recreate memories and the feel of the landscape that she visited.
