Nature constantly inspires me. For this piece, I painted outdoors in Hualien, the east of Taiwan, well-known for its abundant and overwhelming nature. The branches of the trees criss-crossing and bending over and under looked like fingers intertwining, the holding of hands. A wind blew by, sweeping the long branches to and fro as I attempted to capture this movement with shades of purple oil and pastel mixed together. Final touch was adding the light green leaves to the branches, giving the tree life and youthful energy, reminding me of the perennial and regenerative nature of trees. This tree that stood before me has its counterparts in other parts of the world, inspiring perhaps another to paint the world tree.
