Judy Chia Hui Hsu is a visual artist. Her abstract work reveals the hidden beauty in nature, reimagined in bolder, brighter colors.
Judy explores ways to transform natural patterns and shapes into vibrant abstractions. Dramatic colors and striking forms bring her a sense of beauty, joy and awe that she would like to share with her viewers.
Travel has been a primary source of inspiration for Judy, as she’s set foot on every continent but Antarctica. She has a particular interest in plants and landscapes from the deserts and tropics, as well as animals from Africa. She loves the distinctive patterns of zebras and giraffes.
Judy’s artwork is influenced by her years as a journalist. She enjoyed writing about Arts and Entertainment for The Los Angeles Times and The Seattle Times, especially dance performances, where peaceful and frenetic movements alike tell stories through abstractions.
Judy’s work has been shown in numerous cities throughout the United States, including bG Gallery (Santa Monica, CA), the Cultural Center of Cape Cod (Yarmouth, MA) and Wailoa Center (Hilo, HI). She won Best in Show in the Abstractions exhibit at Blue Girl Gallery (Dallas, Texas). She was awarded 1st place in the Abstract category at Best of Gage.
Judy holds degrees from Stanford University and the University of Southern California’s Graduate School of Journalism. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, and raised in Los Angeles, Judy is currently based in Seattle, and travels whenever she can.
