My paintngs are about place and space, creating deep space or flat space: sometimes twisting and turning space within the painting. Playful and ambiguous space. I then engage and exaggerate the shapes and colors to recreate memories and the feel of the landscape that I visited.
I grew up playing on the beaches of the Pacific Northwest. As an adult, I spent years painting locations around the Pacific NW, often spending a week backpacking into the ocean wilds or in a cozy cabin. Now I travel with my tablet and work in the studio to recreate these landscapes.
