Wei-Long Zhu
Wei-Long Zhu is a Malaysian Chinese artist currently based in Taiwan for his artistic development. He holds both bachelor's and master's degrees from the Fine Arts Department of Taiwan University of the Arts. His creative work spans painting, installation, and land art, with kinetic art as his core concept, exploring the ingenious combination and possibilities between mechanics and art.
Wei-Long Zhu's works integrate traditional painting and installation art into dynamic mechanical systems. Through purely mechanical propulsion, his works present dramatic visual and auditory effects, creating immersive and dreamlike experiences. His creations are deeply influenced by steampunk aesthetics, classic mechanical structures, and cross-cultural memories, presenting an aesthetic form that contrasts sharply with modern electronic technology through pure physical dynamics.
In recent years, he has actively engaged in larger-scale kinetic art installations, challenging the limits of mechanical structures while incorporating environmental concepts, exploring clean energy as a driving force to promote the fusion of contemporary art and technology. His art not only focuses on the beauty of form and movement but also hopes to contribute to social environmental beautification through his creations, leading audiences into a poetic space that transcends reality. Additionally, he is also an art education researcher, including special needs children's art education.
